If your hard drive has a NTFS partition, Disk Cleanup on Windows XP can compress old files. Disk cleanup does this to save file space on your hard drive. The downfall of this, though, is that it can take a long time and on some computers, Disk Cleanup can hang during the process. To fix this go to
Start -> Run -> type in ‘regedit’
When the registry editor pops up, go to this key
HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress Old Files

And delete it. The key is the folder in Microsoft Windows XP.

If you are missing the original Administrator account that is made right after a clean installation of Windows XP is installed. Once other user accounts are created, the Administrator account disappears from the logon screen. So don’t panic if you’re missing it! To bring back the ‘disappeared’ Administrator account, press ‘Ctrl + Alt + Delete’ two times at the logon screen, or otherwise known as the ‘Welcome Screen.’ This will bring back the standard logon dialog. From there, you can logon to the Administrator account.
But what if you don’t want to restart your computer to access a different user account, or logon a user that you have just modified? Just click on the ‘Log Off’ button by going here:
Start -> Log Off
Now there is a box that pops up, and all you have to do is to click the ‘Switch User’ button. This will take you back to the logon screen and you can logon to a different user in Microsoft Windows XP. Good luck!

Zone Alarm Pro isn’t as easy as it seems in Microsoft Windows XP. To improve its firewall settings, launch Zone Alarms Pro. On the left hand side, click on the ‘Firewall’ tab. Then on the right, in ‘Internet Zone Security,’ set the slider to ‘High’ and select the ‘Custom’ button also.
Now the settings page is in two sections. One of them is ‘Internet Zone’ and the other is ‘Trusted Zone.’ Under the ‘Internet Zone’ tab, find the ‘High Security Settings,’ which should be at the top, and make sure ‘Allow Broadcast/Multicast’ is checked. Everything else should be unchecked.
Now go down to the ‘Medium Security Settings.’ Check all the boxes until you find ‘Block Incoming UDP Ports.’ After you have checked it, it will ask for a list of numbers. Just put in 1 through 65535. Then find ‘Block Outgoing UDP Ports.’ This should be located near the ‘Blocking Incoming UDP Ports.’ Now check ‘Block Outgoing UDP Ports,’ and for the list of ports, put in: 1 through 19, 22 through 79, 82 through 7999, and 8082 through 65535.
Find ‘Block Incoming TCP Ports’ and after you checked it, use the same ports as above. Use ports 1 through 65535. Then find ‘Block Outgoing TCP Ports’ and do the same as above, also. The ports for outgoing should be: 1 through 19, 22 through 79, 82 through 7999, and 8082 through 65535.
Now at the bottom, just click ‘Apply’ and then click on ‘Ok.’
Now go back to the ‘Firewall’ pane, go to ‘Trusted Zone Security.’ Move the slider to ‘High’ and select ‘Custom.’ Then go to the ‘Trusted Zone’ tab, and do the same as above. Put the slider on ‘High,’ and check ‘Custom.’
Now what all this does, is stops all incoming packets, and will block all pings, and viruses in Windows XP. Also, another good thing you might want to do is to manually enable ‘You want to Check for Updates.’ This will stop spyware from phoning home!

Is Acrobat Reader a little slow at loading in Microsoft Windows XP? Well here is how to speed it up!
Go to
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader (If you do not use drive C: as your hard drive, then change it to your hard drive)
Now create a new folder called
plug_ins_disabled
Now all you have to do is to move all your files from
plug_ins
To your new folder
plug_ins_disabled
But do not move these files:
EWH32.api, printme.api, and search.api
Ok so now you have all but 3 files in your plug_ins_disabled folder. Good job, you have just made Acrobat Reader load faster in Windows XP!

Ever wanted to share a folder, or folders really fast in Windows XP? Well you can! There are 2 ways to do this:
The first way is to go to
Start -> Run -> type in ‘cmd’
After a black, and rectangle box opens, type in ‘shrpubw.exe’ without the quotes (‘ ‘).
The second and fastest way is to go to
Start -> Run -> type in ‘shrpubw.exe’

The Shared Folder Wizard will open up and take you through the process of making a shared folder. And if you want to make multiples of shared folders, it lets you start over the process within the same wizard in Microsoft Windows XP!

If you run certain programs every day in Windows XP, you can use hotkeys to open that program up, or you can switch to a certain program by using a hotkey. This is a lot faster than going through ‘Alt + Tab.’
So you like this idea? Well here is how to do it:
Find a program you want to set a hotkey to, and make a shortcut of it, if there isn’t one already. To make a shortcut, just
Right click -> Create Shortcut
Once you have a shortcut to the program you want a hotkey to, ‘Right Click’ on it again and select ‘Properties.’ Now click in the white box next to ‘Shortcut key:.’ Then press the combination of keys you want to use. Be aware not to use a combination of keys that are used in any other programs you use. Some examples of combinations to use are: ‘Alt + Shift + 3,’ ‘Alt + Shift + W.’
Also, don’t worry if you forget the key combination or anything. You can always change it by using the above method. Have fun with your new Hotkeys on Microsoft Windows XP!

Want to speed up Mozilla Firefox some more in Microsoft Windows XP? It won’t take long at all, so hang on!
The first thing you need to do, of course, is to open Mozilla Firefox. In the address bar, type in ‘about:config.’ Now find ‘network.http.pipelining’ to ‘true.’ Next, find ‘network.http.pipelining.maxrequests’ and set it’s value to ‘100.’ Then find ‘network.http.proxy.pipelining’ and set it’s value to ‘true.’ And finally, find ‘nglayout.initialpaint.delay’ and set it’s value to ‘0.’
This last thing to find, may not be available in the newer versions of Mozilla Firefox for Windows XP.

This is something that is nice to make from time to time in Microsoft Windows XP. With this you can have a screen saver as a slideshow with your photos or pictures!
First, ‘right click’ some where on your desktop, where there is nothing, and click ‘Properties.’ Then click on the ‘Screen Saver’ tab. Now in the screen saver list, click on ‘My Pictures Slideshow.’ Now just click on the ‘settings’ button to the right, and make any adjustments you need to make, such as changing the pictures you want to use. Then click the ‘Ok’ button at the bottom of this little window.

Note: The pictures will be randomly displayed from your ‘My Pictures’ folder located in ‘My Documents’ in Windows XP.

Yes you can save your Windows Updates to your desktop on Microsoft Windows XP! This way you can keep them for later use, or burn them on a CD or something, which we do not take responsibility for you going against any copyrights by burning CDs.

Now to do this, go to the Windows Update website, once there, look at the left pane and find ‘Personalize Windows Update’ under the ‘Other Options.’ Then under ‘Set Options for Windows Update,’ under ‘See Also,’ check the box by ‘Display the Link to Windows Update Catalog’ and then click on ‘Save Settings.’ Then go back to the Windows Update website. Now in the left pane, again, look for ‘Windows Update Catalog’ under ‘See Also.’ Click on ‘Find Updates for Microsoft Operating Systems,’ and select the operating system that you use, or want to get the updates to, and then select the language you speak, or whatever. Then click on ‘Critical Updates and Service Packs,’ and select all the patches that you want to download, then click on ‘Go to download basket’ to download all of them. Now you can have all your Windows Updates for Windows XP saved to your computer to use for later events.
