Hide in the Network
Don’t want your Windows XP computer to show up in the browse list in the networks to other users on the network as you? A way to do this is to disable file sharing. To disable file sharing, go to Start -> Right-click on ‘My Network Places’ and click on ‘Properties.’ Then right-click on your local area connections and click on ‘Properties.’ Then uncheck the box next to “File and Printer for Microsoft Networks”. Then click ‘Ok’.
But you want to use file sharing? Then there is another way to do this! Go to Start -> Run -> type in ‘net config server /hidden:yes”. Then click ‘Ok.’ Now other users that know the path to UNC can connect to it, but they cannot see what has been sharing in the Windows XP network browse list. Good luck!
