Get Back Into Windows XP
If you have forgotten your password, your not alone. Many people forget their password to log onto Windows XP. When this happens, it is almost impossible to get back your password, because of Microsoft’s security features. This the only free way to get back into Windows XP.
By chance, you have another user that has administrator rights, you can change it in there. But if you don’t, you can use the default Administrator user that is on Windows XP.
To access this Administrator user:
#1) Restart your computer
#2) Press the F8 key until you go to a different screen, that you may of never seen before
#3) Use the up and down arrow keys to highlight ‘Safe Mode’
#4) Press ‘enter’ on Safe Mode
#5) Press ‘enter’ on Windows XP or what ever is your operating system your trying to change the password on.
Now your computer should be booting up in Safe Mode. It will start with lines of words, and etc. This is normal, so don’t panic! Then it will show a normal login as if your not in Safe Mode, except there will be one difference. There will be a user called ‘Administrator.’ You want to click on Administrator, so you can change your password.
Once you have clicked on the Administrator user, there will be pop up. Just click ‘yes.’ Now your at the desktop of Safe Mode. Now go to:
#1) Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools
#2) Double click on ‘Computer Management’
#3) Click on ‘Local Users and Groups’
#4) Double click on ‘Users’
#5) Right click on the user you want to change the password, and click on ‘Set Password’
#6) If it pops up with a warning message, just click on ‘Proceed’
#7) Leave the ‘New Password’ and the ‘Confirm Password’ blank
#8) Click ‘Ok’, and ‘Ok’ again
#9) Close all open windows and restart your computer and try to login
You have finally got back your access to your user! But if this didn’t work, the only other way to fix it, is to format your Hard Drive.
Just to let you know, there are programs to recover Windows XP log on passwords, but they can cost money.
