Windows XP

If your hard drive has a NTFS partition, Disk Cleanup on Windows XP can compress old files. Disk cleanup does this to save file space on your hard drive. The downfall of this, though, is that it can take a long time and on some computers, Disk Cleanup can hang during the process. To fix this go to

Start -> Run -> type in ‘regedit’

When the registry editor pops up, go to this key

HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress Old Files

And delete it. The key is the folder in Microsoft Windows XP.
