Blocking Pop-ups

Pop-ups on Windows XP can be so annoying and the only ways that most people find is to download or buy crappy programs that are just a waste of time, resources, money, etc. This way I’m going to show you, is a way to block almost every pop-up in Internet Explorer without the use of ANY SOFTWARE!
Pop Ups
Let Internet Explorer load up. Then go to ‘Tools’ and then select ‘Internet Options.’ Now in this window that opened up, click on the ‘Privacy’ tab to show you the security settings. If you are using Internet Explorer 6, you will have to click on the ‘Security’ tab instead of ‘Privacy.’ Now, do you see the slider there? I hope so, anyways, move the slider up, or north, or whatever you want to call it, to the ‘High’ setting. Now click the button close to the bottom of this little window called ‘Apply.’ Now you have that done, but WAIT! There is one more part left to do! Since you moved the privacy settings to high, it blocks every little thing. For instance, Java Script, and the reason why you are reading this article, is to block pop ups. But without Java Script, you can’t run some online games, and you can’t access your Online Banking, if you use it.

Privacy Settings in Internet Explorer Now, if you still have the ‘Internet Options’ window still open, or if you have already closed it, go to ‘Tools’ and then click on ‘Internet Options.’ Ok, now you have that ‘Internet Options’ window open, click on the ‘Security’ tab. Then click on the button close to the bottom called ‘Custom Level…’ What do I do now? Well scroll down until you find ‘Scripting’. Then look under that and find ‘Active Scripting’ that will be indented and have a bubble next to three options. Next, click on the bubble next to ‘Enable.’ Finally click on ‘Apply,’ and then ‘Ok.’

That doesn’t work? You may have to do it the other selections there: Internet, Local Intranet, and Trusted Sites.
Also, this does not completely remove all the pop ups. This only removes about ninety to ninety-five percent of all pop ups. But it helps significantly without using programs that only work for a certain amount of time, or programs that you have to pay. This will save you time, money, and it will also save you the risk of getting a virus on Windows XP! Let me know how it went!
