Advanced Zone Alarm Pro Settings

Zone Alarm Pro Zone Alarm Pro isn’t as easy as it seems in Microsoft Windows XP. To improve its firewall settings, launch Zone Alarms Pro. On the left hand side, click on the ‘Firewall’ tab. Then on the right, in ‘Internet Zone Security,’ set the slider to ‘High’ and select the ‘Custom’ button also.
Now the settings page is in two sections. One of them is ‘Internet Zone’ and the other is ‘Trusted Zone.’ Under the ‘Internet Zone’ tab, find the ‘High Security Settings,’ which should be at the top, and make sure ‘Allow Broadcast/Multicast’ is checked. Everything else should be unchecked.
Now go down to the ‘Medium Security Settings.’ Check all the boxes until you find ‘Block Incoming UDP Ports.’ After you have checked it, it will ask for a list of numbers. Just put in 1 through 65535. Then find ‘Block Outgoing UDP Ports.’ This should be located near the ‘Blocking Incoming UDP Ports.’ Now check ‘Block Outgoing UDP Ports,’ and for the list of ports, put in: 1 through 19, 22 through 79, 82 through 7999, and 8082 through 65535.
Find ‘Block Incoming TCP Ports’ and after you checked it, use the same ports as above. Use ports 1 through 65535. Then find ‘Block Outgoing TCP Ports’ and do the same as above, also. The ports for outgoing should be: 1 through 19, 22 through 79, 82 through 7999, and 8082 through 65535.
Now at the bottom, just click ‘Apply’ and then click on ‘Ok.’
Now go back to the ‘Firewall’ pane, go to ‘Trusted Zone Security.’ Move the slider to ‘High’ and select ‘Custom.’ Then go to the ‘Trusted Zone’ tab, and do the same as above. Put the slider on ‘High,’ and check ‘Custom.’
Now what all this does, is stops all incoming packets, and will block all pings, and viruses in Windows XP. Also, another good thing you might want to do is to manually enable ‘You want to Check for Updates.’ This will stop spyware from phoning home!
