10 Ways to Increase the Speed of Computers

There are 10 ways to increase the speed of Windows XP, which commonly known. If you don’t know them, its not because they aren’t common, you probably have never put it together, at least not yet!

1. Use Scandisk/Check disk

Run Scandisk or check disk (CHKDSK). Windows will find and fix any error that it finds, and it can help save you some trouble in the long run if you start to get many disk errors. This will help increase the speed of Windows XP because there will be less errors, which means less hassle.

2. Cleanup Utility

Look on the internet and find a good cleanup utility. This will clean up any trash that is found on your computer, for instance, temporary system files, files in your trash can, and temporary internet files. This will increase the speed of computers by getting rid of unneeded files that are just sitting on your hard drive doing nothing but taking up space. This could also clear any virus that could be hiding in those areas.

This will also increase the speed of your computer, because there will be more space on your hard drive and can get rid of viruses, trojans, etc, that are duplicating themselves.

Defrag your hard drive to get rid of any hidden files, and defragging should be done regularly! Also, only do this after you have gotten rid of all garbage and trash files!

Run a registry cleaner to find and get rid of any registry entries that are no longer used on your computer. This will speed up your registry and gets rid of even more data on your computer, plus registry is almost the key to your computer! So don’t do this manually if you don’t know what you are doing!

Check your swap file on your computer to see if it uses a lot of RAM, or memory, and see if it uses up a lot of space on your computer. If so, you can optimize it by changing the amount of RAM, or memory, it can use. This is a good way to increase the speed of computers because it forces Windows to use less memory, or RAM, which results in better performance! *Note: Some applications and games require a certain amount of RAM for it to work properly.

7. Classic Style

You can set Windows to use the classic style to have a faster computer.This will increase the speed of computers because it improves gaming, multi-tasking, and applications will run faster, even though it may look like Windows 95.

8. System Configuration Utility

Using the System Configuration Utility can speed up your boot times. This can increase the speed of computers since there will be less programs running when you boot up the computer, and it will result in a faster computer, since there is less garbage programs running.

9. Drivers up to date?

Check to see if your BIOS, motherboard, and all your other drivers are up to date from your manufacturers. This will definitely increase the speed of computers because the programs that use those drivers will be up to date and be the right ones, so they will work at their best!

10. Are you backing up?

Last thing to do after all the above, is to backup your computer. Remember, backup, backup, backup! To tell you the truth, this won’t really speed up your computer, BUT it is necessary if you don’t want to hassle with the trouble later.
